Crisis en Gaza dispara uso de yute como alternativa al tabaco, según reportes

Comerciantes venden yute con nicotina ante el precio de $13 por cigarrillo. Los ciudadanos temen que la mezcla artesanal contenga sustancias tóxicas

A vendor rolls molokhia leaves, also known as jute mallow, normally used in cooking, into a cigarette at the tobacco market on Omar Al-Mukhtar Street, which traders and residents say is mix with liquid nicotine and processed as smokers turn to improvised alternatives under continuing restrictions that have led to severe shortages in Gaza City and across the enclave on April 19, 2026. In war-ravaged Gaza, where shortages are still acute, some are now smoking home-made roll-ups as a cheaper option as cigarette prices have skyrocketed due to Israel's blockade of many basic goods. Though Gazans normally use molokhia, or jute leaves, for soup, Palestinians now coat the crumbled, dried leaves in liquid nicotine and roll them into cigarettes as a tobacco alternative.
