EscucharBeverly Hills, California, EE.UU. La fantasía épica ``The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring'' encabezó el martes la contienda por los premios Oscar de Hollywood con 13 nominaciones, entre ellas las de mejor película, mejor director y mejor actor de reparto.
Otras cintas que compiten en el rubro de mejor película son ``A Beautiful Mind'', una biografía dramatizada de un genio de las matemáticas; ``Gosford Park'', una cinta de misterio combinada con sátira social; ``In the Bedroom'', una tragedia familiar dominada por los sentimientos de venganza, y ``Moulin Rouge'', una tragicomedia musical que se desarrolla en 1899 en París.
Como mejor película extranjera fue nominada la cinta argentina ``El hijo de la novia'', que compite en esa categoría con la francesa ``Amelie'', la noruega ``Elling'', la india ``Lagaan'' y la bosnia ``No Man's Land''.
En la categoría de mejor director compiten Ron Howard por ``A Beautiful Mind''; Ridley Scott por ``Black Hawk Down''; Robert Altman por ``Gosford Park''; Peter Jackson por ``The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring'', y David Lynch por ``Mulholland Drive''.
``A Beautiful Mind'' y ``Moulin Rouge'' quedaron empatados en segundo lugar después de ``Lord of the Rings'', con ocho candidaturas cada una, que incluyen nominaciones para Russell Crowe y Jennifer Connelly por su trabajo en la primera, y Nicole Kidman en la segunda.
La cinta que acumula la mayoría de las postulaciones suele ganar el premio de mejor película la noche del Oscar, pero muchas de las candidaturas de ``Lord of the Rings'' corresponden a logros técnicos tales como efectos visuales, sonido, diseño de vestuario y edición, de manera que al final, pese a sus numerosas nominaciones, podría quedarse sin el máximo galardón de la Academia.

La ceremonia de entrega de los premios Oscar se televisará en directo el 24 de marzo desde el Teatro Kodak de Hollywood.
