EscucharComo lo habían anunciado los críticos, la película Titanic salíó a flote con las 14 nominaciones que alcanzó para la edición 70 de los premios Oscar de la Academia de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas de Hollywood, que se realizará el próximo 24 de marzo.
No obstante, otras películas también destacan por sus nominaciones. Tal es el caso de The Wings of the Dove, Afterglow, Mrs. Brown, As Good As It Gets., In and Out, Good Will Hunting, Boogie Nights, L.A. Confidential, The Full Monty, "¿Qué es eso, compañero?", Beyond Silence (Más allá del silencio), Character (Carácter), "Secretos del corazón", The Thief (El Ladrón), The Apostle, Wag the Dog , Jackie Brown.

Las nominaciones a mejor película son el resultado del voto de los 5.350 miembros de la Academia y fueron anunciados por su presidente Robert Rehme.
Las candidaturas en las 23 categorías restantes son el resultado de la votación de las diferentes ramas de la Academia, correspondiendo a los actores la elección de las mejores interpretaciones o a los maquilladores la selección del mejor trabajo en su gremio, entre otros.
Tan sólo el comité seleccionador de la mejor película en lengua extranjera está formado por un grupo de voluntarios de todas las ramas, cuya única obligación es haber visto, al menos, la mitad de las cintas presentadas por los diferentes países.
Madonna, será una de las anfitrionas la noche del glamour y el suspenso.
Sólo la película All About Eve (La Malvada), un drama protagonizado por Bette Davis y Ann Baxter, había obtenido hasta ahora 14 postulaciones para los premios Oscar.
La película que más premios alcanzó fue Ben-Hur, con 11, en 1959.
Leonardo Di Carpio, fue la sorpresa de no haber quedado nominado este año.
